Germany’s first and most successful daily drama
since May 11, 1992, Mon-Fri 7.40 p.m. on RTL

Content
GUTE ZEITEN, SCHLECHTE ZEITEN is Germany’s first daily drama to tell the taboo-free story of real life in Berlin. Whether sweet sixteen, twentysomethings or “on the wrong side of thirtyfive”. In the GZSZ neighborhood, only the truth about life counts. The narrative style is modern, trendy, fast and relentlessly open. The neighborhood is fictional, but the influence of current events and problems is real. Whether bullying, bulimia or drug addiction – all of this takes place on GZSZ just as much as the refugee crisis or domestic violence.

Behind the scenes

In May 1992, Werder Bremen wins the European Cup, the last episode of GOLDEN GIRLS airs on NBC, the new Munich airport opens and German television viewers experience a turning point: The birth of GOOD TIMES, BAD TIMES. The daily produced by UFA Serial Drama has been delighting its fans on RTL year after year ever since and will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2022. The production, which was initially ridiculed by critics, became a ratings success, a cult classic, an early-evening hit and Germany’s most successful daily series, which has changed the TV market in this country forever.

The first episode was broadcast on May 11, 1992. Filming had begun less than two months earlier. At that time it was still in Berlin-Tempelhof, since 1995 in Potsdam-Babelsberg. Since then, the production company UFA Serial Drama has been producing new episodes every day on the site of the historic film studios. A highly professional team of writers, directors, camera crews, set, costume and make-up designers, to name just a few of the many trades that guarantee that RTL viewers get their dose of friendship, crime, love, tears, family and lots of drama on screen from an unmistakable and great ensemble.

In 2004, the GUTE ZEITEN, SCHLECHTE ZEITEN website (www.gzsz.de) was awarded the Grimme Online Awards audience prize.
Another unique feature of GZSZ is that since summer 2006, outdoor filming has been taking place on the “original GZSZ outdoor set”.

GUTE ZEITEN, SCHLECHTE ZEITEN is a production of UFA Serial Drama for RTL. Dominique Moro is the producer. Line producer is Christina Vogel-Froehlich. Co-producers are Katrin Birkner, Christine Melzer and Christian Schönfeld. Executive producer for RTL is Christiane Ghosh, the editors are Susanne Philipp and Christina Pachutzki.

The special about the Seefeld family was filmed in Barcelona, Sitges and other locations in Catalonia in September.

The cast for the Spain special includes Eva Mona Rodekirchen, Lars Pape, Iris Mareike Steen, Felix van Deventer and Ulrike Frank. There will also be a reunion with Hardy Krüger and Roberto Thoenelt. The Spanish actresses Helena Gerez and Ana Mena are brand new to the GZSZ cosmos for the special.

The content:

The Seefelds set off on their long-awaited vacation in Spain, with Lilly in particular hoping to put the turbulent events of the last few weeks behind them. But the chaos starts even before they leave: Maren loses the ring she was going to use to propose to Michi in a romantic setting. Katrin, who is also traveling to Barcelona on business, rushes to help. Will she manage to organize a replacement? Katrin’s own emotional world is shaken, however, when an unexpected encounter with Tobias brings back painful memories and raises questions: Who was the mysterious woman at his side in the flagship store? Meanwhile, the Seefelds are in for another shock when they arrive in Spain: Maren’s vacation home has been broken into. Jonas, who is distracting himself from his argument with Flo with an innocent vacation fling, is able to catch the burglar – but his identity poses a major dilemma for the family. And suddenly the vacation turns into a dangerous adventure. For the Seefelds, a race against time begins in which not only the family is put to the test, but also all their lives are at stake.

The GZSZ special was produced by Damian Lott. It was directed by Christian Singh from a screenplay by Berthold Eversmann. The camera was operated by Victor Voß. RTL’s executive producer is Christiane Ghosh, while Susanne Philipp and Christina Pachutzki are the editors.

Anniversary at GUTE ZEITEN, SCHLECHTE ZEITEN: The 8,000th episode airs on April 15 Toggle

Dominique Moro, producer of UFA Serial Drama: “For 8,000 episodes, everyone who has worked on this series has put their heart and soul into this daily. Even after 32 years, it’s still fun to tell stories that are just like real life – no two days are the same, no two loves, no two friendships, no two arguments are the same.”

Joachim Kosack, Managing Director of UFA Serial Drama: “My respect and thanks to the entire GZSZ team for this mammoth achievement. When we talk about GZSZ, we are talking about a big ship that has maneuvered through many waters and has never lost sight of its goal – the best entertainment for the viewers. With all the content, technical and production know-how in all the trades behind the camera and all the actors in front of it. I would never have dreamed that we would one day produce 8,000 episodes and yet we are about to broadcast them. Congratulations to the whole team!”

Ulrike Frank, actress in the role of Katrin Flemming: “I’m absolutely delighted to have been a part of GZSZ for so long! It’s incredible that we’re still so successful after 8,000 episodes and, above all, that we have so much commitment, energy and fun.”

The content:

The trial day is coming up. Not only has Carlos given up all hope of freedom, but Alicia is also despairing that she can no longer do anything for Carlos. While Paul tries to be there for Alicia, Michi still can’t believe that Katrin and Tobias really want to make a false statement. In fact, Katrin goes through with her plan in court. When Tobias is called to the witness stand, the case takes an unexpected turn…
