Potsdam, November 8, 2024. Last night, the annual BAMBI Awards ceremony—Europe’s largest media awards show—took place in Munich. The “Best Series of the Year” was decided by a public vote, with MAXTON HALL – THE WORLD BETWEEN US Season 1 prevailing over DIE ZWEIFLERS and CROOKS. Harriet Herbig-Matten, Martin Schreier, Ceylan Yldirim, Daphne Ferraro, Valentin Debler, Petra Hengge, Philip Pratt, Runa Greiner, and Andrea Guo joyfully accepted the award, which takes the form of a golden deer.
The BAMBI Jury, in its statement explaining the nomination of *MAXTON HALL – THE WORLD BETWEEN US* Season 1: “The series is visually opulent and takes us into a world that remains closed off to many. We see a modern fairy tale featuring an excellently cast ensemble of young actors led by Damian Hardung and Harriet Herbig-Matten. *MAXTON HALL – THE WORLD BETWEEN US* casts a contemporary light on the classic youthful longings for love, recognition, and self-determination.”
Martin Schreier and Tarek Roehlinger, directors of MAXTON HALL – THE WORLD BETWEEN US, Season 1: “At a time when authoritarian forces and algorithms are increasingly trying to divide us, it’s crucial that we as artists not only draw attention to injustices but also give people inspiration and hope by showing what truly defines us and what’s worth fighting for. Love is the strongest force that unites us. That makes it all the more wonderful that love won at the Bambi Awards.”
MAXTON HALL – THE WORLD BETWEEN US Season 1 is a UFA Fiction production (producers: Ceylan Yildirim and Markus Brunnemann; executive producer: Valentin Debler) as a German Original Series for Prime Video. Martin Schreier (TRAUMFABRIK) and Tarek Roehlinger (EIN AUSNAHMEZUSTAND) directed the series, with Christof Wahl serving as director of photography. Daphne Ferraro is the head writer. The writers’ room consisted of Marc Schießer, Marlene Melchior, Zoe Hagen, Nina Rathke, Anna Schimrigk, and Juliana Lima Dehne. The series was funded by the German Motion Picture Fund (GMPF).
The Honorary Bambi of the evening was awarded to Holocaust survivor Margot Friedländer. The life story of this eyewitness to the Nazi regime is also told in the UFA Documentary production *ICH BIN! MARGOT FRIEDLÄNDER*, which has already been honored this year with the German Television Award, the Blue Panther, and the Robert Geisendörfer Prize.
