UFA was the first German production company to commit to more diversity in front of the camera. Our goal is to reflect the actual diversity of society in Germany in our programs. We base this on the figures from the German census, among others, and record the on-screen diversity of our entire program portfolio once a year and publish the figures annually.
In addition to collecting concrete figures, UFA has also set itself the goal of comprehensively expanding the diversity of the perspectives it tells. And it is important to us that these new perspectives are authentic. We want to tell stories less about marginalized groups, but rather incorporate the perspectives and expertise of these groups into our development processes. We also want to promote diversity behind the camera so that we can tell authentic stories in front of the camera.
We still have a long way to go in some dimensions of diversity. To date, the visibility of people with disabilities in German film and television does not correspond to the actual proportion of the population, nor do we regularly tell stories from the lives and perspectives of people with disabilities.
In the second edition of the UFA Diversity series competition #PerspectiveMatters, we are looking for serial ideas from the second half of life.
We would like to develop your idea together with you and bring it to pitch maturity. Would you like to join us in giving a lasting boost to the representation of the voice and perspective of older people on German television?
Then send us your story, your perspective, your voice.
Let’s start creating new narratives and new images together.
