UFA young talent casting takes place again as e-casting

01.11.2021
From November, drama graduates are invited to introduce themselves

Potsdam, November 1, 2021: Every year since the UFA Young Talent Casting was launched in 2008, it has supported young acting graduates on their way into the film, television and streaming industry. In informative workshops, they also have the opportunity to talk to UFA casting director Nina Haun . Casting participants from previous years have already been able to take on exciting roles in current projects such as THE KING OF PALMA (Pia Micaela Barucki), ELDORADO KADEWE (Lia von Blarer), KU’DAMM 63 (Giovanni Funiati) and in the 3rd season of CHARITÉ (Franz Hartwig, Johanna Link, Muriel Bielenberg, Peter Miklusz). As was the case last year, this year’s casting of young talent will take place digitally and remotely, partly due to the positive experience with this approach.

Nina Haun, initiator and director of the young talent casting, has already found the perfect cast for numerous projects. The internationally renowned casting director has received awards including the German Casting Award, the German Academy for Television (DafF) Award in the “Casting” category and the FIRST STEPS Honorary Award 2017, the latter in particular in recognition of her intensive involvement with up-and-coming filmmakers.

Nina Haun, Casting Director UFA: “For someone who, like me, loves actors and actresses and wants to recognize and support young people with enthusiasm and curiosity, the young talent casting is a great gift. A diverse and inspiring pool of talent that we want to sift through and make visible and whose energy and creativity we also need. In this respect, the film industry is no different from soccer clubs or politics.”

As of today, graduates of state-recognized German-language acting schools that are members of the Standing Conference on Acting Education are once again invited to present themselves at UFA’s annual casting of young talent. The e-casting format was successfully used for the first time in 2020. The acting graduates submit two videos – a self-presentation and an acted scene. To ensure that these look professional, the graduates are invited to an online workshop with casting director Nina Haun in November, where they will receive tips and advice on the application video. After the submission deadline, the participants will have the chance to get feedback on their application videos from the UFA casting team (Nina Haun, Alrun Seifert and Johanna Höppel) in another online workshop in January.
