UFA Distribution was founded in 2008 as UFA Cinema Verleih to primarily distribute UFA Cinema’s theatrical films.

As part of the renaming and strategic realignment in 2016, the distribution activities were expanded and now include all of UFA’s fictional programs that are not produced purely as commissioned productions. Distribution from a single source optimizes the financing and exploitation opportunities for the entire UFA portfolio – from theatrical films with high audience appeal, high-quality TV events and high-end series to daily drama and weekly programs and TV series.

For the physical distribution of its programs, UFA Distribution cooperates closely with its sister company Fremantle, based in London, as part of the Fremantle Group. As one of the world’s leading international media distribution companies, Fremantle has a strong distribution network with locations in more than 30 markets.

There are also close partnerships with Universal Pictures, Warner, Universum and Global Screen, for example, particularly in the area of German-language productions.

The focus of UFA Distribution within the distribution and sales cooperations lies in the area of development and financing through minimum guarantees and pre-sales, in packaging and in the exploitation phase, especially in marketing and press support for the productions, whereby the diverse synergy possibilities within the Bertelsmann Group can also be utilized.
