Jakob (Jonas Nay) is a withdrawn, sensitive 15-year-old in the midst of the turmoil of puberty. He films everything that moves him with his video camera and loves unusual photos. His parents Claas (Wotan Wilke Möhring) and Irina (Nicole Marischka) know little about him, they are too preoccupied with themselves. They are in the middle of a marital crisis – Jakob witnesses an argument almost every day. When Jakob’s mother tells him that she is separating from Claas and moving out, he withdraws even more into himself.
Jakob also gets into trouble at school, but he doesn’t really care because he only has eyes for Hannah (Sophia Boehme), with whom he is in love. Just as he is starting to get closer to her, a self-made, compromising video of Jakob ends up in the hands of his classmates. Before Jakob can get it back, a classmate posts it on the internet – and the video quickly spreads throughout the school. As a result, Jakob is laughed at and bullied from all sides. He receives dozens of hate messages in chat rooms on the internet. Hannah also breaks off contact. Jakob is ashamed and desperate; his parents try to help him without really realizing the extent of his misfortune.
The film deals with the medialization of all areas of life and shows the drastic consequences this can have for young people – inspired by the sometimes extreme developments in social networks on the Internet and increasing cases of so-called “cyber-bullying”, bullying on the Internet.
