The German foreign television station DW-TV offers its viewers all over the world so-called “user-generated content”: The program CLIPMANIA exclusively shows material from people who do not work in film or television.
Video portals on the Internet are developing rapidly and consumers have long since become producers too. Hundreds of thousands of new videos are produced every day. On the one hand an almost unmanageable flood of images, on the other hand a source of surprising video material. CLIPMANIA selects the best videos, takes a look behind the scenes and introduces the makers. With a journalistic eye, the editorial team searches for and finds the most informative, inspiring and entertaining videos, and CLIPMANIA reporters tell stories that can only exist in the age of Web 2.0. For example that of Peter Oakley alias “Geriatric1927”: the 80-year-old widower from England talks about his life on YouTube and has become one of the most successful video bloggers ever. He made contacts with people all over the world, became a member of the pensioners’ band “The Zimmers” and now appears on TV shows.
CLIPMANIA sheds light on trends: More and more politicians are addressing the web community via video. Why does Chancellor Angela Merkel, for example, produce a new video message every week? CLIPMANIA has the answer: The German edition is hosted by Thomas Hackenberg, who has many years of journalistic experience – for example at WDR radio and the RTL consumer show “Wie Bitte! – can look back on.
CLIPMANIA is also broadcast in English on DW-TV. The presenter is Max Hofmann, who has experience with both purely journalistic and predominantly entertaining formats. DW-TV also produces an Arabic subtitled version of CLIPMANIA for the Arab world.
