The story begins two years after the end of the first season. The year is 1992.

Emigrant Matthias “Matti” Adler has established himself on the beach with his “Bieradler”. Tourism is booming, holidaymakers are flocking to the promenade and the pub is bursting at the seams. Matti wants to seize the opportunity to push ahead with his expansion, but the “Playa de Palma” is fiercely contested territory. The pie has gotten bigger and the battle for it is becoming increasingly relentless. Matti has to decide what he will risk in order to prevail against his competitors.

Post-reunification, upswing, party atmosphere: after the fall of the Berlin Wall, mass tourism on Mallorca is booming – and the Adler family emigrates to open a small beer garden on the famous Playa de Palma. The inconspicuous store quickly experienced a meteoric rise. But the Adlers have to cross more and more borders to ensure their success. Soon they find themselves in a maelstrom of bribery, blackmail and violence from which they can no longer escape…

DER KÖNIG VON PALMA season 1 is a UFA Fiction production commissioned by RTL+. Producer and showrunner is Johannes Kunkel, who is responsible for the books together with Veronica Priefer, head writer and showrunner, and Yves Hensel. The show is directed by Damian John Harper and cinematographed by Friede Clausz. Marvin Rössler is producer. On the RTL Germany side, Nico Grein is Executive Producer, under the direction of Hauke Bartel, Head of Fiction RTL Germany. Season 1 can be seen from February 24, 2022 on RTL+ and on April 15 / 18 / 19, 2022 on free TV on RTL. A second season has already been commissioned by RTL.
