With the bestseller CHARLOTTE LINK – THE SEARCH, another highly suspenseful and abysmal thriller in the series about investigators Kate Linville and Caleb Hale is being filmed as a two-parter by UFA Fiction for ARD: Scotland Yard investigator Kate Linville returns to her East of England home and becomes embroiled in a mysterious series of crimes. The autumnal coastal region and the deserted upland moors provide the ideal natural backdrop for an abysmal psychological thriller based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Charlotte Link. Henny Reents as Kate Linville and Lucas Gregorowicz as Chief Inspector Caleb Hale impress in the roles of the investigators, who search for missing teenage girls and a suspected killer in different ways. This suspenseful psychological thriller by director Till Franzen is characterized by subtle characters, mysterious connections and a dramatic showdown.
Part 1
A rainy autumn evening in Scarborough: 14-year-old Hannah Caswell (Ava Hayes) waits in vain for her father Ryan (Georg Nikoloff) at a deserted train station, and a short time later the schoolgirl has disappeared from the face of the earth. Alcoholic chief inspector Caleb Hale (Lucas Gregorowicz) takes on the case, but is unsuccessful. Two years later, a girl’s body is found on the moor. While the media speculate about a psychopathic “Hochmoor killer”, another 14-year-old girl, schoolgirl Amelie Goldsby (Charlotte Lorenzen), disappears from the parking lot of a supermarket. Her mother Deborah (Milena Dreissig) doesn’t even bother to call the local police. She and her husband Jason (Alexander Perkins) desperately ask Scotland Yard officer Kate Linville (Henny Reents), who is a guest at their boarding house, for help. However, the experienced investigator does not want to interfere in the work of her colleague and ex-lover Caleb, who is outside her jurisdiction and busy with private matters. When “the Amelie case” turns unexpectedly, Kate can no longer escape. She pretends to be a journalist and immerses herself in a crime series that really gets to her.
Part 2
14-year-old Amelie (Charlotte Lorenzen) has suddenly reappeared and is back with her family. Since her disappearance and rescue by Alex Barnes (Nikola Trifunovic), the teenager seems to have changed. Then, to her parents’ horror, Amelie disappears again on a trip to the moors. Chief Inspector Caleb Hale (Lucas Gregorowicz) is now under even more pressure: not only is he groping in the dark in the search for the “High Moor Killer” and a missing person, but now he loses the only witness despite personal protection – a bitter setback. Caleb immediately sets out to find Amelie’s shady “rescuer” Alex, who had extorted a reward from her parents (Milena Dreissig, Alexander Perkins) and has since gone into hiding. The chief investigator is in for a painful surprise when he visits a suspect: Boat tour operator David Chapland (Ben Braun) is having an affair with Kate Linville (Henny Reents). The Scotland Yard officer no longer has any regard for her ex-lover and his responsibility for the case. However, she can’t use her London badge here. Disguised as a journalist, she investigates the question of where the runaway Mandy (Amy Lally) might be. Even her mother doesn’t seem to be interested in the girl’s disappearance. Kate puts her life on the line in her search for the big, mysterious connections between all the missing persons cases.
