Anti-discrimination

At the beginning of 2018, UFA launched a process to prevent discrimination in the workplace. A key part of this is the ongoing sensitization and information of all longstanding and new employees. The aim is to ensure respectful treatment in everyday working life. The process, which has now been established, is continuously evaluated and optimized.

In the event of discrimination of any kind or suspicion thereof, a diverse group of trusted individuals is available to all colleagues to provide help and advice.

In addition, there are “awareness ambassadors” who convey UFA’s cultural guidelines and possible offers of help to the teams in personal speeches on set at the start of each new production.

Training courses for all employees and discussion rounds on various key topics, such as the responsibilities of managers, filming intimate scenes and much more, are held on an ongoing basis.

Measures to prevent discrimination (selection):

  • Various guidelines and handouts on the process, the support services and trusted persons as well as on specific topics such as abuse of power and bullying
  • Dedicated intranet page with all information and contact points
  • Awareness video produced in-house to raise awareness and provide information
  • Permanent visibility in company premises through specially developed posters with rules for good cooperation
  • Daily reference to the anti-discrimination process in the daily schedule in the productions
  • Mandatory online training for all new employees as part of the onboarding process
  • Code of conduct for filming intimate scenes & offer of support from external intimacy coordinators

Another important external service for the cultural sector is “Themis – Vertrauensstelle gegen sexuelle Belästigung und Gewalt e. V.“, with which the UFA works closely and trustingly.

The UFA is a signatory to the alliance “Together against Sexism“, which is funded by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ) and implemented jointly by the EAF Berlin and the BMFSFJ.
