It’s getting colorful again – twice! The huge success of the premiere of VIVA LA DIVA – WER IST DIE QUEEN? will be followed by two brand new editions of the drag show produced by UFA Show & Factual on RTL in 2023. The message remains the same: everyone can be who they want to be – diversity is welcome! RTL will show the new episodes on June 2 and 9, 2023 in prime time.

The guessing show will once again be hosted by star chef Tim Mälzer. Also taking part again: Olivia Jones, Jana Ina Zarrella, Jorge González and Tahnee, who will work in two teams to guess which celebrities have been given a brilliant drag makeover. A panel of five professional drag queens – Bambi Mercury, Laila Licious, Catherrine Leclery, Danny Ma Fanny and Pam Pengco – will judge the performances of the newly crowned queens and decide who will progress to the next round. In the end, only one of the six queens can take home the victory.
The making of the show: VIVA LA DIVA - THE WAY TO THE RUNNING START
Directly after each new episode of VIVA LA DIVA, RTL presents the making of the show: in preparation for the show, the queens are accompanied in detail by the cameras of UFA Show & Factual. This is where the real work on the way to becoming a drag queen is hidden for the celebrities. VIVA LA DIVA – DER WEG ZUM LAUFSTEG shows the transformation of the celebrities into drag queens, the training sessions, the first walk in high heels and much more. The making-of for the show is also produced by UFA Show & Factual.
Primetime victory in summer 2022
The premiere of VIVA LA DIVA – WER IST DIE QUEEN? on June 20, 2022 as part of RTL’s “Diversity Week” was already a complete success: With a very good 12.2% market share among 14 to 49-year-olds and 10.0% among 14 to 59-year-olds, the colorful drag show was a high heel ahead of the competition. A total of 2.04 million viewers watched Steffen Hallaschka, Mickie Krause and David Odonkor, among others, as they set an example for more diversity and acceptance as proud queens.
And diversity wins! At the German Television Awards 2022, the guessing show about make-up, wigs and breathtaking outfits was awarded in the category “Best Entertainment Equipment” (Bambi Mercury & Envy Peru representing the entire team) and nominated in the category “Best Entertainment Show”.
VIVA LA DIVA – WER IST DIE QUEEN? is based on the successful Dutch format “Make Up Your Mind”, which was developed there by Herald Adolfs and the production company Herriemakers. The German version for RTL is once again produced by UFA Show & Factual. The show was recorded as a hub production with Herriemakers in the Netherlands. The distribution rights are held by Fremantle.
Strong ratings for the second episode of VIVA LA DIVA - WHO IS THE QUEEN?
Strong ratings for the second edition of VIVA LA DIVA – WHO IS THE QUEEN? yesterday, Friday, with a 10.1 % market share among 14 to 59-year-olds. In the 14-49 target group, the show achieved a very good 11.8 % market share and was a high heel ahead of the competition with its primetime victory in this target group. “The Teacher” Hendrik Duryn won last night’s Queens competition and gave the best performance of the evening as Leah Craft.
A total of 1.37 million viewers watched the German Television Award-winning celebrity installment show about make-up, wigs and wonderful outfits, which was produced by UFA Show & Factual based on the Dutch format “Make up your mind” by Herald Adolfs and the production company Herriemakers.

Now it's getting colorful! UFA Show & Factual produces VIVA LA DIVA - WHO IS THE QUEEN? for RTL
Glamorous, colorful, artistic – the drag show VIVA LA DIVA – WHO IS THE QUEEN?, produced by UFA Show & Factual, brings the spectacular world of drag queens to the stage. In the new celebrity installment, seven prominent men are given a breathtaking drag makeover and compete against each other in a drag competition. VIVA LA DIVA – WHO IS THE QUEEN? celebrates diversity with a clear message: Everyone can be who they want to be!
Olivia Jones, Jorge González, Jana Ina Zarella and Tahnee try to guess which celebrities are behind the Queens. The show, which will be broadcast on June 20 at 8:15 p.m. on RTL, will be hosted by star chef Tim Mälzer.
Walking on high heels, carrying their breasts in front of them, displaying diva airs and graces while trying not to be recognized – that’s the big challenge for the selected celebrity men. But that’s not all: a panel of experts consisting of professional drag queens Bambi Mercury, Laila Licious, Pam Pengco, Catherrine Leclery and Miss Ivanka T. will judge the queens’ performances in three rounds and decide round by round who will progress. For the eliminated queens, the big reveal finally follows: who is hiding behind the spectacular outfit and elaborate make-up? The audience and the jury will not be deprived of the hard work of the celebrity men on their way to the drag stage.
Throughout the competition, the two teams of Olivia Jones and Jana Ina Zarella as well as Tahnee and Jorge González puzzle over who might be hiding behind the queens. Clues to the true identities are hidden in the costumes and in the choice of colors and music. But the queens do everything they can to avoid being recognized!
In the end, only one queen will take home the victory. The winning trophy will be presented by another surprise celebrity styled as a drag queen, but who is not part of the competition. Here, too, you have to guess who is behind the mysterious queen.
