Leander Haußmanns STASIKOMÖDIE (original title)

UFA FICTION GmbH • Cinema • May 19, 2022
With the brilliantly cast STASIKOMÖDIE, a production of UFA Fiction in co-production with Constantin Film, director Leander Haußmann presents the conclusion of his GDR trilogy.

After the cinema successes SONNENALLEE and NVA, the successful director now delves into the bohemian life of Prenzlauer Berg at the time. Enigmatic, abysmal and full of charm, he tells a story about good and evil and everything in between, but above all a coming-of-age story and one about the discovery of love. A reminder of the GDR past and a mirror of the present.

Producers Sebastian Werninger (UFA Fiction), Herman Weigel and co-producer Christoph Müller (Constantin Film) received the Producer Award of the 43rd Bavarian Film Prize. The Producer Award is presented to the outstanding German film that leaves the best overall impression.

The theatrical release was on May 19, 2022, distributed by Constantin Film.

For the feature film, the award-winning director and screenwriter has assembled a prominent and trenchant cast in front of the camera, right down to the supporting roles: David Kross and Jörg Schüttauf as blue-eyed Stasi informer Ludger, Antonia Bill and Margarita Broich as the underestimated wife Corinna, Deleila Piasko as the hippie Amazon Natalie, Henry Hübchen as the constantly fuming and sniffing Stasi officer, Detlev Buck as the over-ambitious policeman in a constant East-West loop, Alexander Scheer as the drag queen and love interest of barkeeper Karsten Speck, Tom Schilling as the curious Mr. Dietrich and many more.

Berlin, today: At the urging of his friends, his wife, children and grandchildren, Ludger Fuchs (Jörg Schüttauf) decided to request access to his Stasi file. Today he is a prominent, indeed popular, novelist, yesterday he was a hero of the GDR resistance; he was therefore inevitably under observation by the Stasi. Ludger proudly presents the thick file to his assembled family. The Stasi has documented and commented on everything: his apartment, his cat, even scenes with his wife Corinna (Margarita Broich) in their marriage bed… But then: “What’s that?” A letter torn up and glued back together, very detailed, very intimate…. It certainly wasn’t from Corinna, and Corinna wants to know exactly what it is. Ludger plays it off: “That was before your time…” But it’s no use, the Stasi documented everything in detail. Furious, Ludger packs up his file and flees outside before the marital dispute, which has now become heated and loud. He lights a cigarette in front of the house and pensively blows the smoke into the sun. And he remembers the young man (David Kross) who was once recruited by the Stasi to immerse himself in the bohemian life of Prenzlauer Berg, to scout it out and break it up. And how he immediately liked life there so much: the freedom, the women (and not just one!) that he soon forgot his mission…
