UFA Show & Factual is producing three new prime-time episodes of DER PREIS IST HEISS with host Harry Wijnvoord for RTL. The first episode will be broadcast on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at 8:15 p.m. on RTL.

Who has carefully compared prices in the supermarket and counted the change when paying? Who regularly leafs through catalogs or likes to go shopping and always keeps an eye on prices? This will be revealed from Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at 8:15 p.m. on RTL, when it’s time again: THE PRICE IS HOT! None other than DER PREIS IST HEISS veteran Harry Wijnvoord will host the new edition 25 years after his last show. He will be actively supported by his quick-witted announcer Thorsten Schorn, who will call up all the candidates and introduce the prizes. RTL will present a total of three new prime-time episodes of the popular 90s classic, which will be produced by UFA Show & Factual in April 2022.

“I’m really looking forward to this task. After 25 years, it’s about time again. And I hope that we will strike a chord with our viewers again in this revival. Together with the entire team, we are doing everything we can to entertain them,” says show host Harry Wijnvoord.

Thorsten Schorn adds: “When I go shopping, I always play THE PRICE IS HOT. For example, I pull a shower gel off the shelf, estimate the price and then see how much it costs. Harry and I remember each other from the 90s and we never lost touch. We’re both delighted to be bringing back a much-loved classic with THE PRICE IS HOT and continuing television history.”

The game principle of THE PRICE IS HOT is quickly explained: in several rounds of the game, candidates from the studio audience have the chance to put their price sense to the test. First, in each preliminary round, four contestants have the task of estimating the price of the products shown to them as accurately as possible without beating the correct price. The winner receives the respective product and can play for a bigger prize in one of the prize games in the next round.

After four rounds of play, “The Wheel” decides who will progress and play for the super prize in the final. Regardless of whether they have won their game beforehand or not, good momentum and a little bit of luck are required. Because only those who spin the wheel with the highest number of points will progress. In the final, the contestants then play for the big super prize: how high will the total sum of the lovingly staged winnings be? Whoever gets within 5,000 euros of the prize they are looking for without surpassing it will really win!

Game show with a story

For around eight years, from 1989 to mid-1997, the game show ran on RTL in the afternoon and morning programs. Harry Wijnvoord presented a total of 1,873 episodes together with Walter Freiwald. In 2017, RTLplus brought the classic game show back to TV screens with Wolfram Kons as host and Thorsten Schorn as co-presenter. They presented 30 episodes of the new edition.

The US original “The Price Is Right” ran from 1956 to 1965, first on NBC and later on ABC. Since 1972 – and thus for 50 years – the show has been running continuously on CBS.

The success of the classic game show remains unbroken to this day: DER PREIS IST HEISS has been sold in over 40 countries worldwide and is still one of the most successful gameshows in the world today.
