Exclusively for RTL+, UFA Documentary has produced a five-part documentary about Angela Merkel’s life story in collaboration with UFA Fiction. The author is Stefan Aust, journalist and publisher of WELT and WELT AM SONNTAG, as well as long-time editor-in-chief of the news magazine DER SPIEGEL, his co-author is Katrin Klocke, long-time managing editor of Spiegel TV.

Stefan Aust on ANGELA MERKEL – FRAU BUNDESKANZLERIN: “The documentary shows the adventure of a woman from the East with a clerical-socialist background, adapted to the GDR system, who seized her chance at the time of reunification and fought her way to the top of a party with which she originally had little in common. She was stronger than the men in her party and left many of them on the margins of history. She changed and modernized the party, expanding it to the left – leaving room for right-wing parties on the right fringe. The CDU shrank, as did the SPD, and the political landscape after Merkel is different from before her time.”
