UFA Fernsehproduktion produces “The Golgotha File” based on the bestselling thriller by Philipp Vandenberg.
Israel, somewhere in the Judean Mountains. An excavation team discovers a millennia-old secret in a cave. A secret so great that it will turn into a deadly danger for its discoverers. Schlesinger (Gerd Silberbauer), a renowned archaeologist who has made the incredible discovery, is immediately the victim of an attack and all his colleagues are also to be killed. But the ambitious scientist only dies three weeks later – during a failed liver transplant in Munich.
What remains is his daughter Felicia, a bestselling author with whom Schlesinger has had no contact for years. The secret of Schlesinger’s death also remains behind: his daughter, who also lives in Munich, did not know that her still beloved father had returned to his homeland. In hospital, she learns that her father was last in Israel for excavations – but no one can tell her what he was really researching. What Schlesinger died of, however, is revealed: the donor organ was poisoned – the archaeologist was murdered! But by whom? And above all: why?
Felicia (Katharina Schüttler), who lost her mother at an early age and therefore had to cope on her own in her youth, as her father was constantly away on excavation expeditions, is left alone with her questions. But not entirely, because in Gropius (Marco Girnth), the surgeon who transplanted her father’s liver and who is now himself suspected of having killed the archaeologist through “malpractice”, she finds the involuntary accomplice she needs to find out the truth.
The two heroes, who couldn’t be more different – she, the naive and refreshing adventure novelist, he, the cynical and stuffy super doctor – embark on a European tour de force that could end in the death of both of them, as Felicia and Gropius have to face many dangerous situations in which they have to rise above themselves to escape their pursuers. The enemy, an arch-conservative Christian secret order, is hot on their heels because it wants to prevent Felicia and her companion from solving the mystery that brought death to more than just Schlesinger. Unraveling the mystery would destroy the foundations of the Christian faith forever… A murderous hunt for the truth begins…
