Dr. Eric Leonhard’s world is shattered when his heavily pregnant wife Sarah wants to visit her sister one day, but never shows up – since then there has been no trace of her. The police investigation remains unsuccessful. Convinced that Sarah and his child, who should have been born by now, are still alive, Dr. Leonhard begins to investigate on his own.

When a photo of Sarah suddenly appears on board a cruise ship, he doesn’t hesitate for long and signs on as the ship’s doctor. But he can’t trust anyone on board, as he doesn’t know which crew members could be involved in the case. However, as Dr. Eric Leonhard’s job as a doctor is not just a job, but a vocation, he is repeatedly called upon by vacationers who need his help. Eric quickly gains a reputation as a competent doctor who is also interested in the human destinies of his patients in order to heal them. At the same time, however, the crew are surprised at his aloofness when one of them gets too close to him.

DER SCHIFFSARZT is a UFA Fiction production commissioned by RTL+ and RTL. Executive producers are Markus Brunnemann and Brigitte Müller, who is also responsible for the script as head writer with the support of Simon X. Rost is also responsible for the script.
