A well-known Christmas song is playing on the long-distance bus radio, and Felix (Klaus Steinbacher) has a particularly festive present in his luggage: the 25-year-old new Berliner wants to propose to his long-time girlfriend Saskia (Leslie-Vanessa Lill) in his hometown of Mittenwald! But when he starts his journey home one day before Christmas Eve, an unforeseen chaos factor intervenes: Fellow long-distance bus passenger Hanna (Sinje Irslinger) – also on her way to spend Christmas with her grandma Paula (Lisa Kreuzer) and staunchly single. Although the dutiful Felix does not respond to the charming advances of Hanna, who left her lover Carlos shortly before departure, he postpones the proposal to Saskia indefinitely at the last minute. When Felix and Hanna meet again the following year on the pre-Christmas drive home, he is in a relationship – but not engaged! And with every new encounter, they both become increasingly tempted to try something that can’t actually work …
