MARZAHN MON AMOUR (original title)

UFA FICTION GmbH • Series & Sequences • ARD media library • From March 14

With heart and Berlin snark: in summer 2024, the new ARD Degeto series MARZAHN MON AMOUR was filmed in the Berlin district of Marzahn. All episodes will be available in the ARD media library from March 14.

The six-part series – produced by UFA Fiction – tells the autobiographically inspired story of novelist Katja Oskamp, who turns her life as a writer upside down and decides to make an unusual new start instead: she becomes a chiropodist in Berlin-Marzahn, once the largest prefabricated housing estate in the GDR. In a beauty salon, she and her colleagues, who become friends, learn more every day about the exciting, bizarre and moving life stories of their customers.

Henriette Lippold, producer at UFA Fiction: “Translating Katja Oskamp’s tender and cleverly observant book into pictures is an exciting and challenging task. We have dealt intensively with the stories of the predominantly older people and have immersed ourselves in biographies that represent an entire generation. It is touching to give these people and their everyday lives a stage. The fact that we have found Clara Zoë My-Linh von Arnim as director and very authentic and strong actors to tell us these stories makes us extremely happy.”

Leonie Geisinger, Executive Producer at UFA Fiction: “We are very proud and grateful to have been commissioned by Degeto to film MARZAHN MON AMOUR, based on the wonderful novel of the same name by Katja Oskamp. The series tells the story of a special neighborhood and the people who live there and share their everyday moments of happiness and worries, big and small, in Kathi’s salon. Our series is dedicated to them. Director Clara Zoë My-Linh von Arnim has transformed these stories into a series with the utmost love and respect. It was an exciting challenge to immerse herself so intensively in the biographies of the predominantly older protagonists, who represent an entire generation and are played by fantastic actors, many of whom have their own biographical connection to the district. Marzahn – we love you!”

Berlin book author Katharina, Kathi, Grabowski (Jördis Triebel) is in a life crisis: no orders from the publisher, an unwanted separation – and her daughter Lilly (Maja Bons) would like to go far away as soon as she finishes school. For Kathi, this all means a fresh start. She retrains, becomes a chiropodist and starts working at the “Beauty Oasis Marzahn”. While the pragmatic boss Jenny (Yvonne Yung Hee Bormann) is rather skeptical, her right-hand woman Lulu (Deborah Kaufmann) believes in the career changer. Kathi soon realizes that her job involves more than shaving calluses and filing nails: It’s about people and their stories. It’s about listening. Kathi initially finds it difficult to deal with a former neighbor (Hermann Beyer) who appears in Stasi style. In the ongoing conflict between the stubborn Doris Nocke (Katrin Heller) and her equally stubborn mother (Monika Lennartz), the chiropodist gets caught in the middle. And finally, Kathi is once again caught between two stools when her boss Jenny suspects that Lulu wants to open her own store and summarily dismisses her. When her free-spirited daughter Lilly (Maja Bons) also moves out, Kathi has to make a decision: What is important to her? And where does she actually want to move to?
