Home Smart Home: Psychotherapist Emma Turgut (Emily Cox) tries to keep every area of her life under control with smart gadgets. But when she uses a therapy app she developed in her practice, mysterious and increasingly dangerous incidents occur that could cost Emma her career, her family and ultimately her sanity… The UFA Fiction production UNSICHTBARER ANGREIFER, directed by Martina Plura and based on a screenplay by Willi Kubica, was filmed in Berlin and the surrounding area in early 2023.
The psychological thriller premiered at the Hamburg Film Festival in October 2023.
The Turguts are a modern, tech-savvy family: Emma (Emily Cox), her husband Amir (Denis Moschitto) and their son Malik (Eren M. Güvercin) live in a smart home built to the latest standards by SAMIRA, a company for which Amir works in marketing. Emma relies on smart technologies not only in the house, but also in her work as a psychotherapist, because the huge influx of patients needs to be cleverly optimized. In order to be able to help more and more people, she develops an AI-based therapy app together with SAMIRA’s chief developer Georg Bohr (Golo Euler). However, as the first practical phase begins, initially minor but soon serious incidents occur with the networked and omnipresent technology.
But is it really the technology or is it Emma’s nerves that are causing the complications? Emma is tormented by the suicide of a young patient, for which she blames herself. Since then, she has tried to help as many people as possible, even though she is hopelessly overworked and increasingly losing contact with her family, her best friend and her patients. The complications make her suspicious: is someone trying to manipulate her life? Or is a hacker at work?
