Filming is currently underway for OUIJA, a gripping French-language mystery thriller created by Jörg Winger for Big Window Productions and Thomas Bourguignon. STARZPLAY, STARZ’s international premium streaming platform, is teaming up with French public broadcaster France Télévisions and Fremantle for the production. The series will be filmed in Nice and the surrounding regions in France.

OUIJA tells a coming-of-age story against the backdrop of a multi-generational saga. The six-part series centers on a Franco-German student exchange in rural France during the 1982 World Cup. OUIJA interweaves themes of life, love and death with the gripping story of characters from three generations: one who fought in World War II, one who rebuilt Europe during the Cold War, and one who enjoys the peace and prosperity of the 1980s. Together they embark on a journey of discovery, uncovering a tragedy that took place in the summer of 1944.

Executive producers are Jörg Winger (DEUTSCHLAND83/86/89, HACKERVILLE, SOKO LEIPZIG) for Big Window and Stéphanie Carrère for Kwaï (BARON NOIR, THE LAST WAVE, A SON). Co-executive producers are Sebastian Werninger and Philipp Driessen from Big Window. The leading roles in OUIJA are played by Ophelia Kolb, Katharina Schüttler, Thomas Sarbacher, Stefan Konarske, Ruben Meiller, Eloïse Rey, Victor Lefebvre, Bruno Solo, Patrick Mille, Anne Le Ny, Matthias Van Khache, Catherine Mouchet, Raphaëlle Agogué, Emilia Pieske, Célia Lebrument, Leyla Rink, Manu Libert and Anton Petzold.
OUIJA is a co-production of Big Window Productions (a label of UFA Fiction Productions) and Kwaï Productions, both Fremantle companies in their first collaboration. The project is STARZPLAY’s second French-language co-production to be released for first run in Germany and German-speaking Europe, including Switzerland, Austria and Luxembourg, Spain and the Nordic countries, and for second run in France. The co-production partnerships between STARZPLAY and FRANCE TÉLÉVISIONS as well as Kwaï and Big Window were brokered by Jamie Lynn, Executive Vice President, Co-Production and Distribution at Fremantle.
