The new school year immediately holds a surprise for Ralph Friesner (Axel Prahl): his new, somewhat headstrong boss (Susanna Simon) has assigned him as a teacher for the pilot project “Get Ready”, a seminar in which the “problem cases” of the new year are to “learn how to learn”. And all this in a youth hostel in Brandenburg. Here we go: Seven students take part in this curious mixture of class trip and adult education. While his class embarks on adventures and struggles with their problems, Ralph is in the middle of it all, having to manage the crisis, worrying and caring, solving some problems and involuntarily making others worse – and then his roommate Karin (Katharina Thalbach) turns up. The students either think Karin is his mother or his girlfriend and are amused by the curious dynamic between the two. In short, Karin’s presence doesn’t exactly help Ralph’s authority. To make matters worse, one of his students (Nadine Wrietz) disappears without a trace. There are no clues or explanations. The perfect moment for Ralph’s new boss to pay a visit to the youth hostel.

EXTRAKLASSE – ON TOUR is a production of UFA Fiction on behalf of ZDF. Producers are Dedina Dettmers and Markus Brunnemann, producer is Debora Rosenthal. Gernot Gricksch is responsible for the screenplay and Sinan Akkuş is the director. Petra Tilger is the editor at ZDF. Filming took place in Berlin and Brandenburg until the beginning of June 2022.
