Our ZDF event three-parter celebrated its exclusive premiere at Mipcom in Cannes! And that’s not all: streaming provider Netflix has secured the rights to “The Same Sky ” and will show it in English-speaking countries. In addition, our spy three-parter is also in high demand in Europe: France 3 (France), VRT (Belgium), Rai (Italy) and RUV (Iceland), among others, have secured the rights to “The Same Sky”.
“The Same Sky” paints a portrait of a society in the midst of the Cold War. Written by award-winning British author Paula Milne, the three-part event goes to the heart of the conflict and follows the trail of spies and agents, refugees from the republic and dreamers of a better life; of ordinary people on both sides of the Berlin Wall who have to live with the secrets, lies and paranoia, but also with their very personal convictions and decisions that the times demand of them.
Content: The young East Berlin Romeo agent LARS WEBER (Tom Schilling) is smuggled into the west of the city. There he is supposed to find LAUREN FABER (Sofia Helin) in order to give the Stasi access to sensitive information from the British secret service. When the mission takes an unexpected turn, his West Berlin commanding officer RALF MÜLLER(Ben Becker) unceremoniously sets him up with NSA employee SABINE CUTTER (Friederike Becht). A momentous decision, as it soon turns out, because his connection to her goes far beyond his original assignment.
While nobody in the East knows about Lars’ mission in the West, events at home are also coming to a head. Lars’ father GREGOR(Jörg Schüttauf), a loyal socialist, increasingly doubts the political convictions for which he has been prepared to sacrifice so much. His brother CONRAD(Godehard Giese), whose marriage to GITA(Anja Kling) is nothing more than a farce, has to watch as his youngest daughter KLARA (Stephanie Amarell) is forced to dope for socialist success in the competitive sports program.
Another narrative thread develops around the homosexual teacher AXEL(Hannes Wegener), who falls in love with the British globetrotter DUNCAN(Richard Pepper) from the West and whose longing to leave East Germany grows with each passing day.
