UFA is one of Germany’s oldest and most distinguished entertainment brands, with an artistic heritage of films like ‘Metropolis’, ‘Der blaue Engel’ and the German Expressionism films. Today, UFA is a highly competent group of production companies, having continuously extended its market leadership among Germany’s film and television producers over the last few years. UFA’s programmes thrill and inspire millions of viewers every day. UFA evolved from programme designer and TV producer into a content specialist, offering a range of solutions for multimedia technologies – and for an extremely varied set of partners.

Under the UFA umbrella, seven subsidiaries operate independently in the market in a system of linked performances. Its wide-ranging product portfolio offers a unique diversity of complementary programmes.

UFA Fernsehproduktion, teamWorx and Phoenix-Film realize high-quality fiction productions such as TV movies, mini-series, series and TV events. Documentary television shows, reality programmes and shows are made by UFA Entertainment. Grundy UFA is a leading supplier of industrially produced serial dramas and telenovelas. GRUNDY Light Entertainment produces a wide range of game, quiz, dating, comedy, music, variety and panel shows.

Long-running programme brands are the focus of UFA’s product strategy. The line-up consists of top-rated successes like “That´s life”, “Julia – Roads to Happiness”, “SOKO 5113”, “SOKO Leip-zig”, “Good Times – Bad Times”, “Behind Bars”, “Among Us”, “Forbidden Love”, “Bella Block”, “Ein starkes Team” or “Unser Charly”. UFA distinguishes itself with TV movies, TV events and feature films like “Border of Despair”, “Storm Tide”, “The Airlift”, “Dresden – The Inferno”, “Operation Val-kyrie” or “Willenbrock”, which set industry standards. Adaptations of internationally successful light entertainment and infotainment such as “Deutschland sucht den Superstar”, “The farmer wants a wife”, “Das Quiz mit Jörg Pilawa”, “Mein großer dicker peinlicher Verlobter” and top-rated, in-house productions such as “Zuhause im Glück” and “Die Superhausfrau” round off the portfolio.

The measurable result of this strategy is the largest output of the most successful new programmes of all production companies operating in Germany: during the 2005/06 season, the share of success-ful UFA launches, i.e. programme launches with ratings higher than the station average, was 47% in contrast to the overall market share of 35%.

UFA is one of the first film and television producers in Germany to become intensively involved in the development and production of content for new digital media such as mobile TV, digital the-matic channels, IPTV, direct-to-DVD and interactive TV. Reference projects include the world's first original DVB-H programme, “Das UFA Quiz”, the mobile multiplayer trading card game “Master of Maya” and “Kill your Darling”, the first full-video series developed and produced in Germany for mobile phones.
