Nothing is more exciting than reality – and major television events are by no means always fictional. Specialising in infotainment, reality and show, UFA Entertainment produces up-to-date TV entertainment for a young and trendy target audience. UFA Entertainment clients include RTL, SAT.1, Kabel1, VOX, RTL II, Ki.Ka, MDR and RBB.
Most of the young TV professionals can well appreciate these needs, having worked for various broadcasters, in some instances for many years. UFA Entertainment’s successful development of new formats is based on both the broadcaster’s programming profile and the latest findings of market research.
UFA Entertainment has a proven ability to adapt internationally successful formats. A global network enables UFA Entertainment to pick up the best of these from around the world, adapt the programmes for the German market and offer them to broadcasting partners. A successful example is the show ‘Die Putzteufel – Deutschland macht sauber’ (‘How clean is your house?’), a development of FremantleMedia’s independent producer Talkback, that is set out to a long-term future in the channels’ programming and ‘Bauer sucht Frau’, the most successful production of the Austrian ATVplus . Further successful adaptations include the dating show ‘El, der Millionär’ (‘Joe Millionaire’), seven episodes of which were broadcasted on RTL II with good rating figures. The ongoing co-operation with Fox Television gave rise to the fall 2004 SAT.1 highlight ‘Mein großer dicker peinlicher Verlobter’, the German version of the American reality surprise show ‘My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiancé’.
UFA Entertainment’s continuous attention to programming quality and needs corresponds with its own high standards. The best example of this is the current affairs magazine ‘Die Redaktion’ and its spin-off ‘Die Redaktion Spezial’ which have been produced for the last ten years. With up to 19% market share amongst the core target audience of 20-29-year olds, this is one of the most successful programmes on RTL II. Another long-term success is the trend and leisure magazine ‘ReläXX’ (Ki.Ka, RBB) which has a consistent focus on an intelligent approach to entertainment for older school children and young teenagers. ‘Schau ins Land’, the travel documentary for MDR rounds off the portfolio.
Another field is the section of docu-soaps such as “Die Superhausfrauen” (RTLII) and “Katja & Heide” (Kabel 1) which were very successful in their timeslot.
In the show section, UFA Entertainment caters primarily to the tastes of younger viewers. Prime time shows such as ‘Fata Morgana’ (RTL), ‘Die GZSZ-Show’ (RTL) or programme events such as ‘Halloween Hit Show’ (MTV), ‘Ballermann Hits’ and ‘Après Ski Hits’ (both RTL II) are testimony to UFA Entertainment’s extensive know-how when it comes to defining TV entertainment.
The company is also exploiting new business segments, such as AFP (Advertiser Funded Programming). Innovative formats, like the ‘Coke light Mann Show’ and ‘Pampers TV’ (both RTL II), involve both the broadcaster and the advertiser as partners. Top
